I began a new job the first week in January and returned to the office environment after being away for just over three years. There was a lot I remembered and anticipated would be the same, but there was a lot that was different as well. As I moved through the days and weeks new teachers popped up for me in many forms, some testing me and others offering a moment of reflection or observation. Here’s a short list of the teachers I’ve come across so far:
1. industrial hand soap
2. the helpdesk (one word)
3. high fructose corn syrup in large quantities – readily available
4. mobile offices
5. multiple passwords
6. my new iPhone
7. closed in shoes with high heels
8. lunch venues at noon on the dot
9. Girl Scout Cookie order sheets
My acclimation has gone well overall, and I’ve been taking in the lessons. Life continues to shift and I’m grateful that I’ve learned that though your classroom may change, teachers are abundant and appear when the student is ready.
