The Perfect Storm

There's nothing like a natural disaster to shift your inner constitution into a state of defragmentation, angst and hyperactivity. This morning in class while students were in child's pose, I talked some about how their yoga practice is a dress rehearsal for one thing that is constant in all of our lives. Storms. Much like twisting crescent lunge held for 5 honest breaths, Hurricane Sandy is looming ominously in our forecast.

The application of a yoga practice is in the entering into such events with a steadiness that enables a student to weather twisting lunges and Acts of God.

At this moment, I am about to spend time with friends at a cooking event. The weather today is fabulous! Tomorrow, I'm sure I'll have more clarity around my non-perishable grocery list. Further out, if necessary I'll grab a flashlight to find my way around to the kitchen (see non-perishables above). On the other side of Hurricane Sandy, I expect there will be more lovely autumn days and plenty of sun salutations at my yoga studio.

Stay safe everyone. Namaste.
