I got the opportunity to travel for work to a city I’ve never visited before, Boston. Many of my friends and colleagues have been and have had nothing but wonderful things to say about this historic city. I couldn’t wait to go.
You know, there’s something to be said about just exploring the good old US of A. Even though my trip was short, just 2 ½ days, it was packed with as much walking time in Back Bay as possible. And in keeping with what happens when I usually travel, something of significance occurred. This time, it was an earthquake that hit New England just prior to my plane touching down and the second 2012 Presidential Debate.
A good friend who is a professional photographer met me in Boston on the second day and inspired me to pick up my camera (this time the ever capable iPhone 5) and get to shooting. Some years ago I’d taken up the hobby of photography seriously, and traveled to Quebec and Paris with shutterbug groups. I’d forgotten how much fun and satisfying it was to explore my creativity this way. After getting a few tips from my friend on how to use the camera, I was stooping, leaning and craning for shots. The First Baptist Church of Boston, the fifth oldest church in the U.S., the Charles River, Boston Common Frog Pond, the cityscape abutting Little Italy and the Back Bay Hotel. I'll post some of these images soon.
On the rare occasion, I become the subject of pictures. I say rare, because there’s something about looking into the lens from the other side that immediately puts me at dis-ease. But my friend had a great idea, to play off of the now infamous comment made by Governor Romney during the debate about “Binders full of women.” So off to Newbury Street we went to Georgetown Cupcake, where they had election cupcakes for sale. A little uncomfortable, and a bit impatient as I’m known to be – he waited me out, and got the perfect shot.
